Why I Loved A Time to Rise

Ok, so maybe you've heard about this book, or one of the others in the Out of Time series. If you've read my blog for a while, you know I looooove this series. I asked for the first two books for Christmas, and read them within a week.
   THEY ARE FABULOUSNESS!
   I LOVED THE FIRST ONE!
THE SECOND ONE WAS AMAZING, BUT I HAD MY REASONS FOR LIKING NUMBER ONE!
THE THIRD ONE MADE ME BAWL FOR TEN MINUTES DURING ONE POINT AND SHRIEK AND FLOP!
   READ THEMMMMM!
Ok, seriously though, here are the reasons why I loved this book, A Time to Rise (which you can pre-order right now and get swag).

This book...IUKASDJLPAWPSADJWEOERGS OK? CAN I JUST FLOP AND GIBBERISH AND YOU TAKE THAT AS...NO? I have to speak coherently? Rats. Ok then.

   1. Um, the ending of book 2

I think anyone who read A Time to Speak shrieked at the ending. HOW COULD THE AUTHOR END IT LIKE THATTTT??? HOW COULD SHE? IT WAS LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO DO! *attempts to keep this spoiler free* JUST LET ME TELL YOU EVERYTHING! Ok okkkkkk
*coughs* Also, I met this fabulous author at my OYAN conference. I MET HER OK? OH MY GOSH THAT WAS AHHH I would like be really awkward and see her talking to someone and squeak to my poor roommate about how amazing she was. Then when my mom came I finally got the nerve to talk to her and SHE SIGNED MY BOOKSSSS! DO YOU KNOW HOW AMAZING IT WAS TO GET A HUG FROM YOUR FAVORITE AUTHOR? AND THEN LATER WALK TO THE CAF WITH HER AND EAT LUNCH????
   *ends rant*

   2. The feels

THE FEELS, MY COFFEE ARMY! THE FEELS! WHYYYYYYY! I LEGIT EMAILED NADINE BRANDES (who is fabulous and emails back) AND COMPLAINED ABOUT EVERTHING IN ALL CAPS AND SHE DID NOT CONSOLE ME BUT INSTEAD PROCEEDED TO ALERT ME THAT I NEEDED TO ALERT HER WHEN I FINISHED! YAS! NO CONSOLING DURING A BOOK BECAUSE SHE KNEW IT'D GET WORSE!

   3. THE PLAYLIST

   GUYSES THE PLAYLISTS ARE AMAZING!

These songs are absolutely fabulous! THEY MATCH THE SONGS AND IF YOU LISTEN WHILE YOU READ YOU CRY MOREEEE!

4. The covers

   STARE AT THE AMAZING COVERS!

      5. BlackHawke

Ok, I know there's an Insta post around here somewhere that explains the ship names (#pb+j for Parvin and Jude) BUT SERIOUSLY I SQUEALED SO MUCH! BLACKHAWKE IS SO CUTE WHYYYYY IS THEY SO CUTE OVER EGGS SERIOUSLY???

   7. CHARACTER GROWTH

My angels are all grown up! And...not always in a good way...but...*sobs and curls into ball and shrieks and cries* OK SO CHARACTER GROWTH HAS ALWAYS BEEN HARD FOR ME, BUT THESE ARE SO AMAZING! LIHDKLALSKIPQEJDNLALNKS I WATCHED DEM GROW UPPPPPPPPP!

So these are the top reasons why you should read these books! And of course the author is fabulous too, and the rest of the books, so basically just read them all and you'll love them!

I am an adventurer, fusing authentic faith with bold imagination. I never received my Hogwarts letter, but rest assured I’m no Muggle (and would have been in Ravenclaw House, thank you very much.) This Harry Potter super-nerd has been known to eat an entire package of Oreos (family-size) by herself, and watches Fiddler on the Roof at least once a year. I write about brave living, finding purpose, and other worlds soaked in imagination. My dystopian trilogy (The Out of Time Series) challenged me to pursue shalom, which is now my favorite word (followed closely by bumbershoot.) When I’m not taste-testing a new chai or editing fantasy novels, me and my knight-in-shining armor (nickname: “hubby”) are out pursuing adventures.

OK GUYS WHO'S READ THESE BOOKS? FAVORITE CHARACTER? IF YOU HAVEN'T WHICH POINT MADE YOU WANT TO READ IT MOST???

Wisteria Writing Tag

I am here to do the Wisteria Writer Tag! Here are da rules.

1. Thank the blogger who nominated you.
2. Answer the ten questions asked.
3. Add ten (writing or book related) questions of your own.
4. Nominate people.

Thank you Johnathan for tagging me!

1. Which of your writing projects is your favorite and why?
This is not fair...but fiiine. Right now...arg...ok, I'll have to say Revolutionary. This is a book about a girl who goes into a rebel group for the government and tries to take it about. ITS SO PRECIOUS AND SHE AND HER FRIEND JORDAN ARE SO CUTE AHHHHHH!

2. Can you share some snippets from your favorite project? (and no you cannot say no to this IT IS MANDATORY)
   GLADLY!

I flop back. “I’m going to attempt to sleep before the first test comes up, if you don’t you’re a complete idiot.”
“Well as your commanding officer I’m putting you on watch duty first,” he says.
I wait for him to laugh.
Probably to tell me he’s kidding.
  And wait.
  “Cough.” His tone is serious.
  You’re kidding me.
I scramble up to face him. “You’re serious?” I say incredulously.
“Do I look like I’m kidding?”
“Ok, are you mad?” I watch him, trying to figure out what I said.
“No, but seriously, you thought I wasn’t going to put you on watch after you said that?” He smacks my face with his pillow and shoves it under his head.
I stay there, a little on shock.
  Ok...he really just did that.
“Jordan!” I shout at him, smacking him with my own pillow. “I can’t-I can’t even right now! So if I say I’m tired then I get put on watch, and if I say I’m ready to play you say sleep?”
“No, I was going to put you on watch anyways,” he assures.
“Oh, thanks, that makes me feel a lot be-Why? Why not Shannara?”
“Because you’re my favorite, obviously.” His eyes are closed and I groan.
“You’re not funny,” I inform him.
  “Tell that to them.”
I look up to see most of the squad laughing. “I’m going to kill you,” I groan at him,

3. What is your favorite tense (past, present, future) and voice (first, third; I don't think it's actually called that but I'm using that word because it makes sense to me and I can't think of the right one. XD) to write in?

So I always wrote in third past tense, until my OYAN novel which you've heard about above, and I was told that apparently I'm really good at present first, so...*flops*

4. When is your favorite time to write?

I like writing at night, but I don't have my own computer, so I can't always do this, so...yeah...but night is better writing wise.

5. What is the most unpleasant thing you've put one of your characters through? (random note but this question stems almost entirely from a Camp NaNo April conversation in which we discussed why it's good to be mean to your characters. XP Yup, I still remember it.)

*laughs hysterically and huggles my charries* UMMMM maybe...that one scene between a bunch of half siblings where they just beat each other up...it was odddddd...

6. Are you a more character-driven writer or a more plot-driven writer?

I am a very character driven author, but the plot...but the characters...achhchchcaadjklsuiwriousldkadjs ok so probably character driven.
   7. Are you a plotter or a pantser?

I've tried to pants, but I end up plotting anyways...so a hard core plotter. I plot down to the scene most of the time, but sometimes just chapters.

8. What is your favorite word processing system to write in and why do you like it? (SCRIVENER FOR THE WIN)

APPARENTLY I WIN BECAUSE I USE SCRIVENER AND GOOGLE DOCS, DEPENDING ON IF I'M WRITING IT WITH SOMEONE ELSE!

9. If you were left on an abandoned island with the last character you wrote about, how would that go for you? (I know it's super original but unfortunately not from me. XD I pulled it off a meme.)

Oh wow...um...not very well...she's kind of...ummmm....*ferlops* It wouldn't go super well, we'll leave it at that.

10. What is your favorite writing resource? (this could be a blog, website, newsletter, writing book, that one pet who listens to all your writerly ramblings, anything basically XP)

Probably Gmail and google, because without google docs or hangouts I wouldn't be able to chat or write with my amazing writing friends Hannah and Sierra.

And here are my questions!

   1. Which is your favorite character you've written?
   2. How many books have your read this year?
   3. What genre do you tend to write in?
   4. Have you ever written a book and then immediately trashed it?
   5. How many books have you completed?
   6. Do you work on multiple projects at a time?
   7. Do you listen to music while you write?
   8. If so, what kind of music? If not, what kind of noises help you write?
   9. Where do you write?
   10. What's your favorite genre to read?

   I tag...

Top Eight Characters I've Written

*flaps hands* Guuuuuys! I LOVE ALL OF THESE CHARRIES SO MUCH AND HOW DO I CHOOOOSE ONLY TWO FROM EACH STORY ACK!
   Ok, boom, intro.
   Onto the real post.
Except this is part of it. *pats intro's head*
   Ok, seriously guys.

   1. Kaya (Kay-Uh) (Not Kye-uh)

*squeaks and flaps hands* Kaya is sooo cute! She's a dyslexic girl who likes to hide and drink coffee and eat fries and listen to books on tape. She made friends with Shona while picking up her public school schedule YES HER PARENTS really brother cause she lives with her brother BUT STILL SENT HER TO SCHOOL AND IF SHE HADN'T MET SHONA SHE WOULD HAVE DIED! Anywho, yeah, she has a brother named Andrew and an adorable ship named Chaya. Chris is Shona's twin brother, and he's AMAZING!

   2. Turner

Ok, first off, this guy...*flops* He's so stinkin funny...like when I say funny I mean insane. AND LOOK! I didn't watch Teen Wolf, but as I was on Pinterest, I found like gifs  and clips, and Stiles is sooooo Turner! Anyways, he has two siblings, but only one, Israel, is named. He's a hacker, and the funny thing is...one of them anyways, he said at the beginning of the book that he doesn't hack anymore, and then like the whole book he hacks everything. xD He's friends with May.

   3. Everest

Everest is really funny too, but not like blatantly stupid like Turner...xD He's a Superhero, Evie's twin to be exact. He manipulates molecules to freeze them, so basically ice. He's sort of serious, then he basically just blurts something and everyone dies laughing. He doesn't even tryyy, it's just part of his personality. He annoys Evie soooo bad and she just like hits him all the time. He's on the villain team with Trystan and Zane.

4. Caleb

Caleb is half-Korean, half American. He's a Zenith, Trystan's...son, yes, sorry, the family thing is all so confusing. But yes, he manipulates earth, it has to do with the next experiment. He has a half sister named Serena, and they actually get along pretty well. He's ummm *flops because ages* I'm still working it out, but he's like 17-20, somewhere in there. He's like a Bourne, sort of, not as intense, but...*nods* I actually based his character, like the skills, off of the main character from a Korean show called City Hunter WHICH IS EPIC! GO WATCH IT NOW but it's a little intense, but not super bad. *nods*

5. Logan

Logan's...*flops again* Hang on, let me think...he's Caleb's son...I'm 78% sure...Yes. Ok. He's friends with Iris and since she's not on the list (I love her but yeah, I love Logan more) then I don't have to explain her parentage, because...O.O She and Logan may be slightly related, I'll have to fix that...Honestly I haven't even finished the series, so yeah... ANYWHO he's super sweet and quite. He and Iris are totally friends and a ship, like they've made a pact and everything to get married when they grow up, but they made that when they were eight and eight years later it's still going. He's really sweet though, like super cute and adorable for an assassin.

   6. Min Jae

Min Jae is *SPOILERS* son, but you can probably trace his parentage through the fact that his name is foreign. He's not gifted, but since the experiment was like an experiment and not a biological thing, he wouldn't. He was a Messenger for different business, basically he brought stuff to other people secretly for businesses. His parents found out and put him in public school where he met Kate. They started working in her grandparents bookstore and ended up bffs.

   7. Trystan

He's like the biggest psycho of them all...He's a telepath, and when he was seventeen he went in someone's head, and something happened, and so he's like a freakout now. *flops because that was so vague but spoilers* He's so...interesting, I guess. I don't know, he's such a confusing character...

   8. Emmy

Ok, I haven't finished...the third chapter of this one, but she's sooo amazing and I love her because she's a Dreamer! She messes with peoples dreams! So they're illegal where she is, Dreamers, but the Royal Family let her live so she could give them good dreams. Yeah. Then it starts leaking into her own dreams and she like starts going crazy. ACK I REALLLLY LIKE HER

So there you go. And yes, I know that three of those characters are psychos. I will have you know though that all three of them are telepaths of sorts, they manipulate people's minds, so yes. Sooner or later their own minds twisted.

Anywho, thank you so much for reading!
   Racheal

Which character sounds like one you'd write? Who's your favorite character you've ever read about? What about your favorite character from someone else's book/story?

The Authors are Rising Tag

I was tagged by the fabulous Hannah for this tag, so here we go.

Da Rules: (Ok I love whoever created this because I use da instead of the and mah instead of my all. the. time.)

>>Write a post thanking the person who tagged you; include the tag, the 11 questions asked, your answers, and in reply to the request of a small piece of poetry or writing, write a brief 150-word story.
>>At the end of the post, provide 11 new questions.
>>Request a brief 150-word story from the people you tagged.
>>Tag at least one person, and include a link to their blog.

How long have you been writing?
A little over a year. I actually did a writing anniversary post. *shoves it to you* I KNOW IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE THAT IN A YEAR I'VE FINISHED EIGHT DRAFTS AND THREE OF THEM WERE FULL LENGTH NOVELS!

What made you decide to become an author?
Probably when I had this idea and started writing about it and learned I was less crazy when I wrote it out. *nods* Alllll da ideas were pressuring!

Where do you find inspiration?
In the world around meeeeee...ok, mostly actually in things I do. Like pick up a fry. OH MY GOODNESS I NEED A DYSLEXIC BOOKWORM WHO EATS FRIES AND COFFEE! Or on Pinterest. THERE'S A PICTURE OF COFFEE I NEED COFFEE WHICH INSPIRES ME TO WRIIITE!

What's a favorite quote from a book/story you've written?
*goes off to find one*
I is back. Here's what I got.

What's the title of the favorite story you've written?
Probably Iris...WHICH IS NOW BEING POSTED ON WATTPAD! HERE IT IS AHHHH!

Do you prefer writing in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd person?
I always write in third person, but I want to try first with a couple things. I like having multiple POV's do. So...*flops around*

Who's an author you tend to write like?
Tricia Mingerink. When I read her book, I literally stared at it for a moment before realizing it wasn't mine. Our writing styles are very similar. It's scarrry.

Do you write in short bursts fairly often, or several thousand words in one sitting but with larger breaks between sittings?
I write in the morning usually, daily, so maybe a thousand or one thousand five hundred in an hour?

Have you ever had scenes (usually written late at night and discovered the next morning) when something happens in your story that you weren't expecting? If so, could you tell us what it was?
UM YES! LET'S JUST SAY THAT IT STARTED OUT A PROPOSAL FROM MY OTP AND THEN BY THE END SHE HAD BEEN MANIPULATED MENTALLY TO MARRY THE VILLAIN! IT'S SCARY! AHH! I FREAKED!

What's an odd writing quirk you have?
Um, I have to have music. It's a must. Cause the silence is creeeeepy and yes.

What's the weirdest thing you've researched for a story?
Ummmmm, maybe about cauterization, but I'm not totally suuuuure.......
And...one last thing: Give us a peek into how you write by sharing either a 150 word story/poem or a snippet from one of your longer stories.

   *goes to somehow choose*
                                                                *****
I straighten my gown and take a deep breath. Graduation, why did I skip a grade? I could have avoided this by just doing the stupid grade. Now I have to go through this a year early. At least it’s with Ian, but I also Graduate with people I don’t like.
There are more than one.
I promise.
It’s not just Anders.
Ok, maybe it is.
Whatever, he’s the bane of my existence, it’s not like there’s anything wrong with me for not liking him. Seriously, anyone would agree, he’s a menace. A blond menace. A tall blond menace. A-
“Daya, Ian’s here, come on.” Liam calls. “I’ll be on duty today, but I made sure I’m guarding the ceremony, so I’ll still see you.”
“Ok, coming!” I call back, snatching my shoes from the bed. Heels, I’m already tall enough to be in the middle, but I didn’t want to be shorter than people today, so I’m wearing heels.
Ok, shorter than a couple people…
Shorter than Anders…
I’ll admit it! Today, I am being extra careful, he is not ruining this day! It’s my Graduation for goodness sakes! He-
“Daya, sometime today would be nice!” Ian calls. I roll my eyes and slip into the heels, wobbling a bit. “Daya, come on!”
                                                             ******

She is sooooo funnnnnny! I LUUUV HER!

Anywho, that's it I guess...Here are my questions:

   1. What was the first story you ever wrote?
   2. Do you drink tea/coffee/etc? If so, what?
   3. What kind of music do you listen to while writing?
   4. Do you post on Wattpad?

   8. Where do you write best?
   9. Have you ever written a book with someone?
   10. What's your favorite genre to write?

Wrap It Up~August

So to start things off, I loved August, mostly because WE WROTE ANOTHER STORY! ACK! ETACT BOOK TWO! IEIHSKLKDS It was heart wrenching! But anywho, here's your post.
*

*this is my book haul from Savers, and it was all sixteen dollars...WHAT???

So we've been doing a lot of ministry...a lot of ministry...it's kind of exhausting, but still. It's satisfying really. And tiring. But still.

I HAD A BIRTHDAY! I DID! IT WAS AWESOME! ACK! I GOT A T-SHIRT WITH I'm With the Muggle ON IT! *flops do* I can't show you a pic, because bro wanted to take a pic with me with it, but the one we got was wayyyy too small so I look really bad, and he had no shirt, so there's no way between the two that I would post it. But still! It was fabulous! I shall post a picture next week or something.

Ok, so I'm the most boring person ever. In the history of people, I take the boring French Fries ( I switched it up there, see? If you had been at Paper Fury, I would have left it, but you aren't, so I did.) Oh! We went to a concert! It had a bunch of bands, but Matthew West was by far my favorite.

Books, guys, books. I got actually quite a few books. AND I DIDN'T TAKE A PIC OF ok so Sierra and I sent each other books, and I hasn't gotten to take a picture of mine (The Golden Braid) so I is sorry, but you'll have to wait. I do have pics of these books though!

*hides* I am so mean...but hey, I got these for three dollars each...ACK! (not the sign, my friend gave that to me for my birthday, the books) And I actually like this picture, it's...mean, I knowwww. But dey is pretty books, and I love them, and they're sitting on my shelf right now just like that.
So the book section isn't really long, but yeah...

Well...I mean, we finished a fifteen thousand word book 2 for our July camp NaNo project, and let me tell you...*sobs* IT HURTS TO FINISH WITH OUR PRECIOUS CHARACTERS! BUT AHHHH I CAN'T EVEN! *flaps around*
I started editing Superheroes, but now...ahhh, I want to edit Iris and put it out there for you guys...but I also need to write the last book...and my 92838 other books...ACK GUYS HALP MEEEE!
We did start writing Ashes Burn, a fabulous novel involving murder, spies, a king, and a tone of stabbings. If you like stabbings and feels, this will probably be one you enjoy...
*tries to think of what else* Ummmmm, nothing I guessss...

OK! WAIT! BEFORE YOU GO! Katie Grace is celebrating her blog anniversary, and there's a giveaway and a Q&A video, so that's epic. Go. Read this. And I have loved this blog for about a year now, so it's like sort of my reading anniversary too.

Rachael Steele

Did you write anything this month? What's the most exciting thing that happened? What's your favorite song that you listened to?
